Reflecting. . .

As I sit at my desk and think about the year and all that has gone on since a year ago. So much has changed within the walls of this home. At times we are a family of 7, then 6, and most of the time its 5. We had our oldest Son return home from serving a Mission in St Petersburg Russia. November 3 was a day of reunions and things hard to explain. It is an overwhelming feeling to physically see someone that has been gone for 2 years. Yes, you get to hear there voice a couple of times during those years. But when you see them come down the escalator, when a grin that is complete with I completed as successful mission. Well the embrace is something thought about for 2 years and is better than one could have imagined. We had tons of excitement in this home of ours. And although you think your ready your not. This child has grow in more ways than the eye can see. He left a Young Man with a desire to serve the Lord. He came back a Man, looking forward to the future and a little nervous on what to expect. He knows the gospel and is closer in his relationship with the Lord. There is a calmness about them, a at peace kind of feeling. But now they are home. During this time we also had our Second Child receive his call, he was called to serve in the Chihuahua, Mexico Mission. And with a heavy heart at the hearing of this I hugged him and was filled with excitement for him at the same time. At the moment of realization that we would have another son serving. The motions are mixed but there is more Joy in the acknowledgment that he is worthy and ready to go. Although he would wait until March 21, 2012 to report. The months would be long for him and short for a Mom with the knowledge of what was to come. I adore this Boy, he is my black and white Child. We occasionally Butted heads, both being stubborn and strong willed. But there is a goodness in him that I have always trusted. The days are bitter sweet at times. The knowledge of the last things before departure and with the Oldest on his way up to school. The days are flying by, not enough seconds, minutes, hours, or days with my two boys at home. But there is Joy in all of this. They are good men, who have a plan and are obedient to the Lords call. It is selfish on my part to want more time with them. I enjoy the days and weeks leading up to both departures. We have built a strong family unit here, David and I. He is my partner and best friend. He keeps me balanced and centered. I appreciate the example he has always been. Each of my boys want to be like their Dad. I love him more then words an express. Together we have raised 2 boys ready to go and 2 more with their sites set on the goal. The departures were difficult many emotions all at once. Feel blessed to be apart of what they are doing. Feel blessed to know of their strength and goodness. Feel blessed to know that my Father in Heaven is very aware of them. And here we are almost a year later. Kevin is home for the fall and then going back to school in January. Ty, is Elder Tyler Beck and is serving and happy in Mexico. I am the same, a Mom first so I worry every day about him. But he is growing and strengthening and becoming the Man is needs to be. His testimony is growing weekly and it is truly amazing to see and hear that happen in each and every email.  He has set a great example for the younger 2 as did Kevin. And with that we have another child headed to be Mission bound by next summer. After the last conference the announcement was made, that Young Men, who are ready and graduated from high school that are ready may now go at 18. With the announcement Kyle decided that he would like to go as soon as he can. So after Graduation will be getting ready to go. Possible have his call before he graduates. So as another Son prepares and gains strength to go. I am reflecting on the years. And where did they go. I am looking forward to the future. I am looking forward to watching my Sons and Daughter grow and learn and make decisions. Some stages are more difficult then others. There are still challenges to face and things to over come. But what Joy there is in this journey. I love being a Mom, and feel blessed daily for that. Oh yes, there are days when you can't wait for that teenager who thinks they know it all to have a Ah-Ha moment. And realize that more things are better not tested out. There are the days when you feel like you are doing everything wrong and constantly disappointing someone. But then there are the days when you get that very sweet text message, or that hug for no reason, or just have a conversation about all that is going on and you don't want to stop them from talking. Those moments when they are deeply hurt or have a friend that they can longer hang out with because of choices. Those are the moments that help you see their growth and how strong they are. Helping them along in their decisions and giving them the support. It's really whats its all about. Giving them room to grow and become who they need to be. May not always like the choices, friends, and style that is the latest thing. But giving them room, I know that at times my biggest obstacle is myself. Learning to just listen and not comment is hard. Still working on it every day. Setting aside the fear that you have that something could go wrong or hurt them. I guess that is what we do as parents, give them guidelines and teach them right from wrong and then let them go do it for themselves. I admire David he is much better at the let them do it than I am. I hope that in the end, it balances us out and our kids have it both. But he is always calm and always patient. He loves them with his actions and they look to him for advice. He brings a peace in our home that only he can bring. I would be no where with out him. He is my anchor, brings me back when I need him to. Lets me be my OCD self, even though he may like things to stay right where they were. I love him for loving all of me no matter how crazy I may make him. Together these 5 kids are the very best of us both. Well rounded and strong, determined and talented, friendly and shy, grounded in the gospel, seeking knowledge and asking questions. Cant get any better than that but it does. Just as the Blog Title states, " It Just Keeps Getting Better." Many changes are coming to this family of ours, but they are Welcome changes. Growth and Strength are coming, along with a future of being in-laws and grandparents. I think I am looking forward to it all.
