Finding out you have a brother!
About 1 year ago, My Dad found his brother. It is an amazing thing! Recently my parents were here in Cali for a visit and we invited my Dads brother and his family to come up for dinner. It is a great thing to watch my Dad talk with his new found family. His brother Mike and his family are wonderful people and what an amazing thing for them both to have these new relationships. All from a sister in a ward in Utah wanting to finish up some genealogy work on my nephews family sheet. We didn't know much about my Dad's side. Long story short, divorce really no contact from his father so things really stopped at my Dad's dad. So some 40 years later he meets his Brother for really the first time. My Dad had one last contact with his Father and brothers 40 years ago, when I was a Year old. It was a scary thing for my Dad at first, his emotions were really all over on whether this could bring more pain. There was always a feeling that he wasn't wanted and that he missed something. But after meeting and lots of talking the only thing I think my Dad feels he missed out on is having this Brother. Hopefully they can make up for lost time. It's great to see and watch. They are both very Lucky to have found each other. I feel my Dad is who really ended up being the Lucky one. He realized that he didn't have a great childhood but that it could have been much worse. And he has this great family, extended family and that he found the Gospel. For Mile it is alittle overwhelming to find out that you never had family and that you stayed away from what you did have to find out that you have 6 nieces and nephews, and then add on 6 in-laws all with kids. So you now have a large extended family. Well after watching them together that night I think they are both enjoying this new found family.
